The Design Process
Our initial
design meeting will take place on your site. Whether a subdivision
lot or acreage, each property has characteristics of its own.
We will ask you to bring a survey, soil tests (if any), covenants
and restrictions, etc. We will also ask you to bring all of
the information you have gathered regarding the home of your
dreams, including floor plans, exterior elevation ideas, photographs,
magazine articles, material brochures or any information that
may help you explain your ideas. We will discuss budget and
your time frame for move-in.
At our
second design meeting, we will zero in on the design of your
new home by presenting design ideas that reflect and incorporate
your desires. We will explore possibilities within your budget
and site limitations. This is your opportunity to begin to see
your dreams on paper. We will leave sketches with you for your
review and comments.
The third design meeting will incorporate a review of
your thoughts and comments. We will finalize your design
based on your input and your budget.
Finally,
at our fourth design meeting, we will present the completed
design of your new home. We will review the details and materials
you have selected in order to prepare a complete material specification
list and fixed contract price to build the home we have designed
together. Upon approval of the budget, we will complete the
construction drawings and begin to build your custom home!
The design
process usually takes four to eight weeks depending on meeting
schedules, design criteria, etc.
The Construction Process
Scrutiny
is welcomed during the construction of your new home. In fact,
we encourage your participation throughout the process. You
are urged to take photos and videos to provide a lasting memory
of how your home was built. While we realize that not everyone
has the ability to be on site daily, or even weekly, there will
be decisions to be made along the way at your convenience.
The first construction meeting will take place prior to
clearing and grading the building site. We will establish
which trees are to be removed, the path of your driveway
and the elevation of the main floor above grade. We will
talk about water drainage, final grading and any additional
requests you may have.
Our second
construction meeting takes place after we have framed your home
and added the roof. During this meeting, we will walk through
the house to verify locations for electrical outlets, switches,
telephone jacks and cable outlets along with security system
and home theater needs. We will discuss wood blocking for towel
bars, shelving, window treatments, etc. This is a great opportunity
to see and understand how your home is built from the inside
out.
Our final
construction meeting will include an orientation of your new
home. You will receive all warranty information and manuals
for products used. We will explain the basics of how your home
systems function such as where the service cut-offs are located
and how to change air filters, etc.
It is our
pleasure to welcome all of of your questions and quickly respond
to your concerns. At completion, we will have designed and constructed
your home "together."
Our goal
has been, and always will be, to build a problem-free home that
you and your family will enjoy for years to come ... a home
that we are proud to label "Built by Horne Building, Inc."
